Q: Smoke from a wildfire got into my house. Does it need professional cleaning?
A: Often, yes. Fine smoke particles settle in ductwork, carpet, upholstery and attic insulation, and the odor comes back every time the furnace or cooler runs. We clean the HVAC system and ducts, deodorize soft surfaces and treat the structure so the smell does not return. Ask your agent whether your policy covers smoke damage from an outside fire.
Q: Is water from the Columbia or an irrigation canal covered by insurance?
A: Usually not by a standard homeowners policy. Those policies generally cover sudden, accidental water, like a burst pipe or a failed water heater, but exclude flooding from outside unless you carry a separate flood policy. If you live near the lake or on low irrigated ground, ask your agent which coverage you have. Whatever the source, we document the loss the way adjusters expect and bill the carrier directly when the claim is covered.
